Diabetes patients need not to be worried any more, as Indian scientists claim to have developed the single-shot insulin 'Supramolecular Insulin Assembly-II' (SIA-II) that can control blood sugar levels for two months. Means no more daily insulin pricks! The ‘SIA-II’ has been developed by the National Immunology Institute (NII), New Delhi. According to the scientists, the single-shot insulin can be used as a new way of treatment for the disease like diabetes around the world. While the serious patients used to go through 90 insulin shots a month, a single shot of SIA-II will be effective without causing severe ‘hypoglycaemia’ in the morning, a serious condition of diabetics. It has tremendous potentiality to keep sugar levels under control for at least two months without side effects, said NII director Avadhesha Surolia. However, the innovation SIA-II is expected as the biggest one in India that was successfully experimented on rats. The shot will be available after the technology gets conducted by a US company for the clinical trials on humans. |
