IUI & IVF PROCEDURES:
IUI procedure:- “Intra Uterine Insemination”
In this procedure the husband semen is washed in the laboratory
under proper scientific guidelines. This removes all the debris,
dead sperms, prostaglandins immotile sperms, pus cells & other
impurities from the semen. This processed & healthy semen is
then transferred into the uterus of wife. The wife is prepared
to produce eggs, which is achieved by highly purified HMG
injections. The development of eggs is studied by serial ultra
sonography and at a certain maturity of eggs, HCG trigger is
given for egg release and IUI with process semen is timed
accordingly.
IVF procedure:-In vitro fertilization commonly known as “Test
tube baby”.
In this procedure we take couple in batches and stimulate the
wife with highly purified HMG, so that we have good number of
eggs at certain time .These eggs are picked up under endovaginal
ultrasound guidance using biopsy guide and ovum aspiration pump
from craft, UK. These eggs are immediately shifted in suitable
environmental conditions to keep them viable. Meanwhile after
processing the husband’s semen, these eggs are fertilized by
this processed semen of husband in the laboratory. After
fertilization the embryo so formed are kept in incubators for
initial growth and subsequently the good quality embryos are
transferred back into the uterus of the wife. The embryo
transfer is done on the 3rd day of egg pick up. This procedure
does not involve any incision and patient can walk back home
after 2-3 hours.
Does our religion allow such treatment ?
This IVF procedure does not contravene the Muslim religious
sanctity and in fact guidelines have been set forth for these
centers in other Muslim countries like Saudi Arabia, Pakistan,
UAE, Iran, Jordon, etc! We run this centre and procedure as per
similar guidelines set forth by religious bodies.
The first IVF
baby born in IRAN (Yazd infertility centre , Tehran) was in 1989.
All ART Techniques have been allowed in Shariat of Muslim law
except donor egg IVF and donor Semen Insemination. However, the
opinion do vary in different sects of Muslims about these
procedures. In Shi'a community Ayatullah Khomeni's successor
Ayatullah Khamnei haave allowed these AART techniques under
certain circumstances.
